A new book about President Donald Trump’s reported ties to Russia also includes passages detailing the racial bias he showed while running the Miss Universe Pageant.
Mother Jones has released an excerpt from Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin’s War on America and the Election of Donald Trump, which will be released March 13. In it, the former reality star is accused of removing women he felt were too “ethnic” from competition.
“If there were too many of women of color, he would make changes,” a Miss Universe staffer recalled. Another Miss Universe staffer shared, “He often thought a woman was too ethnic or too dark-skinned. He had a particular type of woman he thought was a winner. Others were too ethnic. He liked a type. There was Olivia Culpo, Dayanara Torres [the 1993 winner], and, no surprise, East European women.”
