United Passenger Dragged from Plane Has Broken Nose, Concussion
A lawyer for Dr. David Dao, who was forcibly removed from a United Airlines flight said to be overbooked, will likely sue the company over his injuries, his lawyer says. “For a long time airlines, United in particular, have bullied us,” Thomas Demetrio told a news conference in Chicago, outlining the potential causes of action they may pursue against United and the city of Chicago. Will there be a lawsuit? Yeah, probably.” Dao suffered a broken nose and a concussion when officers from the Chicago Aviation Police dragged him from the flight at O’Hare Airport in Chicago earlier this week. The airline has apologized several times and refunded the airfares of all passengers on the plane.
NY Judge Found at Shore of River Believed to Have Committed Suicide
Judge Sheila Abdus-Salaam had been challenged by the suicide of her brother three years ago and the death of her mother one year ago. Authorities think those factors may have led her to take her own life, although an investigation is continuing, the New York Times reported. Abdus-Salaam, the first African-American woman to serve on the New York State Court of Appeals was found dead on the shore of the Hudson River in Manhattan, not far from her Harlem home on Wednesday. Her husband had reported her missing earlier in the day and she had not shown up for work in her chambers. She had been one of seven appellate judge on the court’s bench since 2013, when she was first appointed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Eddie Murphy Issues Statement on Death of Brother, Charlie
Comedian Eddie Murphy, who lost his brother and fellow comedian Charlie to leukemia on Wednesday released a statement along with his family after news spread of his passing. “Charlie filled our family with love and laughter, and there won’t be a day that goes by that his presence will not be missed,” the statement said. “Thank you for the outpouring of condolences and prayers. We respectfully ask for privacy during this time of great loss for all of us.” Murphy, 57, was a film and television actor best known for his roles on “Chappelle’s Show” as well as movies like “Harlem Nights” and “CB4.”
4 Shot at Atlanta Commuter Station
Police are investigating an incident in which four people were shot while on a train at a MARTA station in Northwest Atlanta. Details are sketchy, but the transit system’s spokesman Erik Burton told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. ET. Passengers were taken off the train and the suspect is in police custody he said. No word yet on the motive or the condition of those who were shot.
