Waffle House Hero James Shaw Jr. Receives Call from the President

Waffle House, James Shaw Jr., Waffle House shooting

White House spokesperson Raj Shah said that James Shaw Jr., the man who confronted the deadly Waffle House shooter in Tennessee last month, received a call from President Donald Trump, according to CNN.

“This morning, the President had a call with James Shaw Jr. to commend his heroic actions and quick thinking last month at a Waffle House in Tennessee,” Shah told reporters at the daily White House briefing on Monday. “Mr. Shaw saved lives when he wrestled a gun from an active shooter who had open fired.”

Shaw, 29, doesn’t want to be seen as a hero but has received praise for his heroic actions. He’s started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the families of the victims.

CNN’s Van Jones spoke to Shaw earlier this month and said he had not heard from Trump.

“I know he has a busy agenda, a busy schedule. Maybe he just hasn’t got around to me. Maybe my time is coming,” he said.
