[WATCH] Congressman Bobby Rush Kicked Off House Floor for Wearing Hoodie

Illinois’ Rep. Bobby Rush (D) was removed from the House floor Wednesday morning after donning the hood of his sweater, violating a rule against wearing hats.

Rush, a former member of the Black Panther Party, wore the hood to honor slain teen Trayvon Martin. “Just because someone wears a hoodie,” said Rush, “does not make them a hoodlum.”

In 1999, congressman lost his own son, Huey, when the 29-year-old was gunned down in Chicago.

‚ÄčAlthough Rush may have been inappropriate, sometimes acting outside of the usual "appropriate" social norm is necessary in order to draw attention to and rectify injustice. Will Rush's act inspire more politicians to make similar public gestures?
