One of President Donald Trump’s top aides for the White House resigned on Wednesday following allegations of domestic abuse.
His two ex-wives made the accusations, and as a result, the accusations became public this week.
In a written statement, according to the Chicago Tribune, staff secretary Rob Porter said the allegations are “outrageous” and “simply false.”
Photos published of his former spouses were taken nearly 15 years ago and don’t tell the full story, Porter said. He announced his departure from the White House after a transition period.
“I have been transparent and truthful about these vile claims, but I will not further engage publicly with a coordinated smear campaign,” Porter said. “My commitment to public service speaks for itself. I have always put duty to country first and treated others with respect. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have served in the Trump Administration and will seek to ensure a smooth transition when I leave the White House.”
Porter, 40, has been with the administration since January 2017. His former wives recounted physical, verbal and emotional abuse they say was caused by Porter during his marriage.
