Zoe Saldana visited The Late Late Show and host James Corden on Tuesday and revealed that her mother has mistaken her for fellow actress Thandie Newton.
“My mom still thinks that I’m in Westworld,” she told Corden about the HBO series, which stars Newton. It wasn’t the first time her mother has confused her with British actress.
“I’m like, ‘Years ago, you thought that I was in Traffic,’” Saldana continued. “‘Mom, you did not give birth to Thandie Newton.’”
Her mother ignored the statement and responded, “Well, your show is on HBO.”
The Guardians of the Galaxy star added, “I’m like, ‘Which one?’ She’s like, ‘Westworld.’”
Saldana asked her mother, “When are you going to understand I’m not Thandie Newton?”
The two actresses met for the first time a few years ago at a Golden Globes awards show, and the New Jersey-born star said the exchange was awkward.
“I hugged her and I kind of scared her because I didn’t tell her why I was invading her space,” Saldana recalled. “I was just like, ‘Oh my God. Please tell me that people confuse you with me.’ She was like, ‘Who are you?'”
Newton and Saldana are currently good friends. Watch the full segment below.
