While her exes Meek Mill and Safaree are having trouble locking in a time and place to shoot the fair one, Nicki Minaj is busy starting charities, having “sleepovers” with Nas and getting the keys. Though she’s accrued plenty of accolades throughout her impressive career, Minaj’s latest honor is one that’s especially close to home.

Though she lost out on scoring her seventh straight win for “Best Female Artist” at the BET Awards on Sunday, any disappointment Nicki Minaj may have felt was quickly displaced the next day when she was awarded the key to her hometown of Queens, New York. The award was presented to Minaj by Queens Borough President Melinda Katz for her “outstanding career achievements in music.”

Originally born in Trinidad & Tobago, the Minaj was raised in South Jamaica, Queens from a young age. Posting a picture of the key on Instagram, the Hip-Hop star described the award as a “pleasant surprise.”

Though she didn’t receive the Key to her hometown in person, Minaj was in New York last night to touch the stage at the first ever NBA Awards. She performed a medley of tracks at the Drake-hosted awards show, including “No Frauds” and 2 Chainz collaboration “Realize.”

Nicki Minaj is the latest in a series of hip-hop artist that have been gifted the key to their city recently. Since last year, Drake, Big Sean, and Fabolous have all received the keys to their respective hometowns.

Even without her own Nicki Minaj, is making her presence felt on wax this summer.  The Queen of Cash Money recently appeared on DJ Khaled’s Grateful (“Nobody”) and 2 Chainz’s Pretty Girls Like Trap Music (“Realize).”
