Officials at Chicago’s DePaul University are investigating reports of a noose being found on its North Side campus Thursday afternoon. A statement sent to students and faculty said the university had “received multiple reports that a noose—was found on the Lincoln Park campus.”

The statement also said that “those found to be responsible will be held accountable.” Students took to social media to react to the heinous symbol, expressing frustration at what appears to be ongoing racism at the institution. “I’m at a loss for words,”

Depaul graduate student Bernard Gilbert posted to his Facebook page early Friday.

“There was a damned NOOSE found on my campus, after everything that’s happened, and I get an email about it that sounds like they found a used needle. Like its contraband…Like its not a big deal…”

Just three days ago, the institution addressed profane graffiti found on campus.
