Law enforcement in New York has dropped charged against Jazmine Headley over an incident where officers were seen trying to pry her 1-year-old child away from her arms, BBC reports.

On Tuesday, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said that pursuing te case would “not serve any purpose and I therefore moved today to dismiss it immediately in the interest of justice”.

Mayor de Blasio said that he spoke to the district attorney’s office on Tuesday about dropping the charges.

“I applaud the DA’s decision to do so,” he said. “She should be reunited with her child as soon as possible.”

Despite the dropped charged, Headley remains in custody, per reports.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) is investigating an incident captured on video Friday showing cops pulling a 1-year-old from his mother’s arms at a Human Resources Administration (HRA) office in Brooklyn.

In the video that quickly went viral on Facebook, cops can be seen struggling with Jazmine Headley, 23, who’s lying on the ground and holding her son to her chest, trying to pry the child away. Headley can be heard yelling, “They’re hurting my son,” in the video captured by Monae Sinclair, who was at the social services office.

Onlookers can be seen and heard screaming, “Oh my God! Look what they’re doing to her,” as the officers interact with Headley, according to NBC News.

“Video images of the incident in the 84th precinct are troubling, and the event is under review by the NYPD and HRA Police,” NYPD Sgt. Jessica McRorie, a police spokeswoman, said in an emailed statement to Politico. “This review will include examination of all available video of the incident.”

Officers said that the HRA staff tried to remove the mother from the location “due to her disorderly conduct towards others, and for obstructing the hallway.” The two workers were placed on leave and will be on modified duty when they return to work, the city social services commissioner told WNBC on Monday.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio called the incident “disturbing” in a tweet on Monday.

“This was a disturbing incident. Like anyone who’s watched this video, I have a lot of questions about how this was handled. NYPD & HRA will get to the bottom of what happened,” he wrote.

Headley is facing charges of resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and criminal trespass, and acting in a manner injurious to a child, according to NBC News.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams said charges against the mother should be dropped. “The mother didn’t endanger the welfare of the child. The actions of the department endangered the welfare of the child,” he said.
