Barack Obama may not be the nation’s commander in chief anymore, but his commitment to bettering the country one community at a time has not wavered.

Huffington Post reports that our nation’s 44th president announced plans to host a summit to promote civic engagement next month in an email sent to his supporters.

“We want to inspire and empower people to change the world, and we hope you’ll be a part of it,” Obama stated.

In the announcement Obama said the summit would unite “hundreds of leaders from all around the world for a hands-on exchange of ideas” in Chicago.

The event, set to take place Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, will be hosted by The Obama Foundation. Young leaders are encouraged to apply to attend. The announcement also says it is “saving a handful of spots” for people who are “active in their community, and will bring a unique perspective to share with other attendees.”
