EBONY recently launched a new multimedia series called “In Our Cities.” This series will combat the negative images the mainstream media highlights in Black communities across the country by showcasing a fuller picture of people, places and projects aimed at improvement.

Boyede Sobitan witnessed the difficulties Nigerian families living on Chicago’s predominately Black South Side experienced in finding key ingredients for many of their popular dishes. Coming from a Nigerian family himself, he says he understood the importance of easily accessing those ingredients. He saw the problem and felt called to solve it, he says. And thus, OjaExpress was born. The delivery app for African and Caribbean foods was his solution to the lack of cultural grocery stores in Chicago.
