If you ask former White House senior advisor Omarosa Manigault Newman, our president is not a racist…he’s just erm, racial.
After her highly controversial departure from the White House on Tuesday, the former “Apprentice” star spoke with ABC News’ Nightline about being one of few Black staffers in the Trump administration.
“It’s been very, very challenging being the only African-American woman in the senior staff,” she told ABC on Thursday.
Newman said the lack of diversity often left her to feel “lonely” and that it seemed other White House staffers “didn’t know how to interact” with minorities.
After addressing the administration does have a diversity problem, she weighed in on the president’s reputation as an outright racist.
“I will acknowledge many of the exchanges, particularly in the last six months, have been racially charged,” Newman continued. “Do we then just stop and label him as a racist? No.”
We beg to differ.
Trump has not only repeatedly targeted Black NFL players who’ve utilized their right to protest on the playing field, he regularly employs dog-whistle language to refer to racial minority groups and Muslims. After the August White supremacist rally in Charlottesville, the president said “both sides” were to blame for the havoc the tiki torch-bearing bigots wreaked in the North Carolina town.
Newman will officially leave the White House on Jan. 20.
