The body of a 17-year-old from the Netherlands was discovered nine days after he went missing.

The NL Times reports Orlando Boldewijn was last seen before going on a date with someone he met from the Grindr dating app. He was later found by police divers on Monday night in a body of water in the city of Hague. Police have not confirmed or denied whether foul play was involved in his death.

“Acting on new information in the investigation, the fire department and police went into the water on Monday afternoon using sonar boats and divers,” police said in reference to the Böttgerwater where Boldewijn was found.

Although a text message from the young man’s phone was sent to his mother the day after he was last seen, his best friend said there was something suspicious about the message. The text conveyed Boldewijn was on his way home. But in the following days, there’d been no cellular or financial activity from Boldewijn.

“The language in the message wasn’t what we were used to from him,” Noha den Hartog told Dutch News. “Usually he shortens lots of words, but in that message he didn’t do it once.”

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of Boldewijn’s death.
