A 44-year-old convicted felon has been charged in the fatal shooting death of a high-ranking Chicago police officer, NBC reports.
Shomari Legghette was charged with murder, armed violence, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and drug possession in the shooting death of Cmdr. Paul Bauer Tuesday.
He was ordered held without bond Thursday.
“Some people don’t deserve to walk the streets,” Chicago police Supt. Eddie Johnson said in response to the suspect’s recent behavior.
Officials said the four-time convicted felon was a “career criminal.”
Previously, Legghette was charged with possession of a controlled substance, armed robbery and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.
Court records obtained by NBC 3 Investigates shows he has a criminal record dating as far back as 1996.
