Pearl Cleage is the latest best-selling author to embark on the lucrative journey from novels to films. Partnering with filmmaker and professor Ayoka Chenzira, Cleage will be adapting her two most popular novels Babylon Sisters and What Looks Like Crazy on An Ordinary Day, the latter of which is an Oprah's Book Club selection and a New York Times bestseller.
Information regarding the next steps for the adaptation is gradually being released. At the website for The Pearl Cleage Film Project, Chenzira and Cleaage have been posting various videos and blog posts interviewing both women, as well as other industry guests and producers involved in the project. The number of Black authors getting adaptations for the big screen is few and far between, so this is definitely a great move for both Cleage and Chenzira.
