PETA is requesting that Tiffany Haddish reconsider using fur to protest the police killings of Black people.

Last week, Haddish, 39, uploaded an Instagram video recounting a story about a fan gifting her with a fur vest at a recent comedy show. While thanking the woman for giving her the garment off her back, Haddish vowed to wear it as much as possible.

“I don’t know if you know this about me, but I’m about to start protesting,” the 39-year-old said. “I’m going to wear fur every day until they stop killing Black people. When the police stop killing Black people, I’ll stop wearing fur. It’s my new protest. So sorry PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), don’t be mad at me, be mad at the police.”

She continued: “See how that go? Because people are important, and so are the animals – to keep me warm.”

According to Entertainment Tonight, the animal rights organization replied to Haddish in a comment under the post. “We love you, Tiffany, … we advocate for and believe in kindness towards all, including animal.”

PETA concluded, “We hope that you choose to protest in a different way that doesn’t harm any humans or any animals, but is kind to all <3.”

Hip-hop mogul and vegan, Russell Simmons reportedly also tried to urge Haddish from using fur to protest.

“White supremacy is a disease that takes on many forms and has many symptoms,” Simmons said. “The abuse of other beings will not address that … or heal ourselves. I love you Tiffany but I wish you would reconsider this route of protest.”

It is unclear if the fur in question was real or if Haddish was merely joking. She has not been spotted wearing fur since the video was shared.
