Georgia Repeals 1863 Citizen’s Arrest Law Ahead Of Ahmaud Arbery Federal Hearing
Governor Brian Kemp signed a repeal Monday making it illegal for people in Georgia to attempt to arrest people that they suspect committed a crime, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The move comes after prosecutors initially told police that the white men, who are now charged in the brutal murder of Ahmaud Arbery, should not be charged because they were attempting to make a citizen’s arrest.
Maya Angelou To Be Featured On Quarter
Maya Angelou is one of the first women set to appear on the new edition of the quarter, which will be placed into circulation beginning in January 2022, the New York Times reports. The new issuance will come as a part of the U.S. Mint’s American Women’s Quarters Program. Angelou will appear on the tail side of the coin. The head side will feature a new design of George Washington.
Stacey Abrams Shares Desire To Run For President Someday
Stacey Abrams may have lost the race for governor of the state of Georgia, but the Democratic activist has her sights set on an even higher position—president. In an interview with CBS’s “Sunday Morning,” Abrams, who just released her eighth novel, While Justice Sleeps, says that’s it’s her “ambition” to be president someday. “Do I hold it as an ambition? Absolutely,” she said. “And even more importantly, when someone asks me if that’s my ambition, I have a responsibility to say yes, for every young woman, every person of color, every young person of color, who sees me and decides what they’re capable of based on what I think I am capable of. Again, it’s about you cannot have those things you refuse to dream of.”

Monday, Simon Guobadia announced that he is engaged to marry “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Porsha Williams. “Getting married again was never a question in my mind,” Guobadia wrote on Instagram. “The interesting thing about life is that it is an individual journey. Porsha and I, with the support of our loved ones, have chosen to travel together as one and spread love and positivity to our community which is in desperate need of positive and healthy images of the best versions of ourselves.” Guobadia is the estranged husband of RHOA cast member Falynn Guobadia, who announced their impending divorce last month.
