Smith-Anoa'i is committed to leveling the playing field for creatives from diverse backgrounds. At CBS, her efforts to recruit and nurture on-screen and behind-the-scenes talent includes initiatives to make the casting process more inclusive, developing workshops with GLADD and co-founding CBS EYE Speak, designed to boost female growth and empowerment. She's most proud, she says, of the fact that she gets to "Say yes to talented deserving people nearly every day," and she stresses the importance of exercising her voice "clearly and effectively" on a daily basis. She's used that voice to launch programs such as CBS On Tour, which introduces college students dreaming of Hollywood careers to company movers and shakers who visit their schools. The EVP acknowledges that she has herself had to overcome bias to achieve success, and says she would like her legacy to be that she "remained relentless in [her] pursuit of justice, equality and equity for all."
