One of this years’ inductee to the National Football League’s (NFL) Hall of Fame (HOF) Randy Moss let his tie do the talking.

It became one of the highlights for this year’s Hall of Fame class in Canton, OH. Moss’ tie displayed the names of individuals who lost their lives due to police officers’ actions. The names of Greg Gunn, Tamir Rice, Akai Gurley, Paul O’Neal, Eric Garner, Freddie Gray, Walter Scott, Sandra Bland, Alton Sterling, Michael Brown, Akiel Denkins, and Trayvon Martin were listed on his tie.

During his HOF speech, Moss did not address the issue of police violence but did touch on it when he was interviewed on the NFL network after the ceremony. Moss used the famous quote from the comic book hero Spiderman with “great power comes great responsibility”. He cited that as the reason he used his tie to make a statement on the platform of the HOF was to bring light to the issue and show his support to the families of the victims.

The talk of this year’s HOF weekend was supposed to be the absence of fellow inductee Terrell Owens from the festivities. The sports world spent weeks covering Owens refusal to take part in the ceremonies. Owens did make his speech at the University of Tennesee which is his alma mater, but the weekend appears to have belonged to Moss. His quiet allusion to the issue went viral and various news outlets picked up the story. Other inductees included Ray Lewis, Bobby Beathard, Robert Brazile, Brian Dawkins, Jerry Kramer, and Brian Urlacher.
