Oprah Winfrey’s impressive Golden Globes speech was the first many people had heard of Recy Taylor. Fortunately, the activist’s name will become even more familiar after documentary, The Rape of Recy Taylor, makes its STARZ debut.

Deadline reports the Venice Film Festival prize winner has been acquired by the network, along with six other exclusive first-run documentaries.

The Rape of Recy Taylor will tell the story of the young black woman who was abducted and raped by six white men in 1944 Alabama.

“Unbroken, she spoke up and fought for justice with help from the NAACP, Rosa Parks and legions of women,” reads the film synopsis. “An epic story of sexual violence in the Jim Crow South, when courageous black women fight to take back their bodies and their dignity.”

The Rape of Recy Taylor will debut July 2nd on STARZ.
