Civil rights icon Rev. Jesse L. Jackson and his wife Jacqueline are both hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19, according to WGN9. The couple is currently receiving care at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, per a statement from the Rainbow PUSH Coalition. In early January, Jesse Jackson was vaccinated against COVID-19.
According to the statement, doctors are closely monitoring their condition at the hospital.
"Doctors are currently monitoring the condition of both," the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) said in a statement Saturday. "Anyone who has been around either of them for the last five or six days should follow the CDC guidelines."
Rainbow Push Coalition is a Chicago-based international human and civil rights organization founded by Jackson, according to their website.
As EBONY previously reported, in 2017, Jackson was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and in February of this year, he underwent gall bladder surgery after being hospitalized for abdominal discomfort.
The couple’s diagnosis comes at a time when cases of COVID-19 are surging throughout the country. According to statistics compiled by Johns Hopkins University, the U.S. reported 319,456 new COVID cases on Friday, raising the overall count of nationwide cases to more than 37.7 million.
