Coming off of a great album debut, Frank Ocean has just been announced as one of the performers for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. The "Thinking About You" singer had to cancel his Europe gig as the opening act on Coldplay's tour, so this highly publicized spot should console those who missed out on seeing him perform. While Ocean has not revealed what tunes he'll be singing that night, he is up for three awards: Best New Artist, Best Direction, and Best Male Video.

Last year, Ocean's fellow Odd Future member Tyler the Creator memorably snagged a VMA moon man trophy for Best New Artist. Ocean will be joining a diverse line-up of performers on Sept. 6, including Alicia Keys and Rihanna. The "Talk That Talk" singer is a five-time nominee at this year's VMAs, tying with Drake for the number of most nominations this year. The VMAs will be hosted by "Think Like a Man" star Kevin Hart.
