EBONY caught up with iconic female hip-hop group Salt-N-Pepa as the ladies rehearsed for their epic throwback performance at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards (May 20). The group consists of Cheryl James (Salt), Sandra Denton (Pepa) and Deidra Roper (DJ Spinderella).

“We’re going to be doing the hits,” Salt revealed. “We only get eight mins, so you get ‘Let’s Talk About Sex,’ you get ‘Shoop,’ ‘Whatta Man’ and ‘Push It’… it’s going to be hot, sexy and fun.”

The group also talks about reuniting with  En Vogue for a playful rendition of their 1993 collaboration “Whatta Man.” Pepa shared the story about how the song came developed, saying that many were reluctant to believe the R&B ensemble would do a song with Salt-N-Pepa.  “They [were] so with it,” she said.

“That was such a girl power moment,” Salt added. “We’re going to have another girl power moment at the Billboard Awards. It’s only the second time we’ve performed with them.”

Listen to the group members talk about preparing to perform their medley of hits above.
