A security guard lost his job after allegedly ordered a “Trayvon Martini” from a Black Kansas City, Missouri bartender, USA Today reports.
Michael Dargy Jr., who patrols the Westport neighborhood public safety officer, reportedly asked for the drink and told the bartender that the recipe consists of “one shot of vodka, watermelon juice” because it “only takes one shot because it only takes one shot to put him down!”
Alobar Bandaloop, the bartender at the bar Buzzard Beach, posted about what happened between him and Dargy on his Facebook page on Monday.
“The smug look on his face was one of the most punchable looks I’ve ever seen,” Bandaloop wrote. “As the manager on duty walks away in disgust and the server on duty is completely confused why this interaction is happening, I’m still stuck in shock that this grown man would say this. I immediately refuse to serve him and the night ends.”
Chesley Brown International that staffs the Westport Public Safety Team where Dargy works confirmed with the Kansas City Star that he no longer works for the company.
“Once this information was brought to our attention we opened an internal investigation which led to this suspension and the removal of the employee from the property,” a statement read. “While the investigation continues, and remains active the officer’s employment with Chesley Brown has ended.”
Dargy’s alleged comments referenced Florida teen Trayvon Martin, who was shot and killed in 2012 by then-neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, who said he was defending himself from the 17-year-old.
Martin’s death and Zimmerman’s acquittal helped launch the Black Lives Matter movement.
