Soon, our first Black president will no longer be in office, our community is concerned and it’s a little harder to smile these days.  In response, Shikeith Cathey, Vaughn Spann, Johnathan Payne and Kenturah Davis began to explore Black joy conceptually. As graduate students at Yale School of Art, they curated a 26-hour multi-sensory experience and spotlighted the power, beauty and finesse of our people. Black Joy opened November 11, 2016 and included visual art, performance, spoken word, dance and music.
