Grammy-Award winning artist Solange´ Knowles was chosen as 2018’s Artist of the Year by the Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Relations.
She will be headlining the Cultural Rhythms Festival on March 3. The festival is an annual event that honors the top scientists and artists of the year. Harvard’s office for “interracial, interethnic, and interreligious relations,” organized the event.

The singer-songwriter received widespread acclaim after the release of her most recent album, A Seat at the Table. Released in September 2016, the record was Solange´’s third solo project, eventually becoming her most commercially successful. It debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, with 72,000 equivalent album units moved in its first week. The project provides a first-person account of the celebration of Blackness. The album openly critiques cultural appropriation and speaks on the history of the Black struggle.
Since Seat at the Table‘s release, Solange´ has used her platform to promote self-healing, empowering messages about the importance of self-identity and the need for representation of all.
The artist’s unapologetic message has resonated with many over the past two years. The annual award ceremony will honor her on March 2, 2018. Past Cultural Festival honorees include John Legend, Viola Davis and Shakira.
