Co-stars Sterling K. Brown and Brian Tyree Henry sat down with Shawn Edwards for an EBONY exclusive after the premiere of Hotel Artemis to discuss making the crime film and acting alongside two-time Academy Award winner Jodie Foster.

The film by Drew Pearce, who is not only making his directorial debut but also wrote the script and served as a producer, follows the Nurse (Foster,) who runs a secret members-only emergency room for criminals such as Waikiki (Brown) and Honolulu (Henry) in a riot-torn, near-future Los Angeles. “It’s an original idea,” says the This Is Us star. “You come into this safe house; you got to get yourself taken care of, and you have all these different criminals going at it, but what happens when they’re forced to be in the same space at the same time?”

When speaking about the cinematography involved in bringing to life what Henry describes as the future meets “1950s Hollywood glam,” both actors call the director of photography, Chung-hoon Chung, “a beast.” The pair also showed a tremendous amount of praise for Foster’s “effortless” talent.
