Hello, my lovely brides to be! After my last article (6 Makeup Must-Haves for Your Big Day) posted, my Twitter and email flooded with questions on how to use some of the products listed. And out of all the questions asked, the most recurring was about how you all could get the most out of your lipstick on your wedding day.
I have to admit that long -wear lipstick has come a long way, and so has its application. For most products that offer the lasting affect, there’s a bit of a process one must follow in order to ensure a rich, lasting color all day.

Here, I’ve provided my favorite go-to lip products I use on my clients, as well as a few tips on how to prep your lips for that perfect wedding day pucker.
1. Prep and prime your lips
If you’re like many women and have a bit of dry skin on your lips, this easy DIY lip scrub is perfect for you. You’ll need one tablespoon of brown sugar and a teaspoon of olive oil. Mix them both vigorously into a paste and rub gently onto your lips for two minutes, then rise with warm water. Pat your lips dry with a towel and you’re one step closer to a fabulous lipstick application.
Then, use a lip primer to ensure a smooth application. MAC’s Perfect and Prime Lip base is one of my favorites.
2. Read the directions
Yes, you must read the directions. I know it’s only lipstick, but a lot of these new formulas really do come with directions. For instance, the Wet-N-Wild Megalast Lipcream lasts for hours, but you have to apply the lip cream and leave your lips apart for 30 seconds to allow the product to set and then apply another layer. I know it seems like a lot, but believe me, it’s well worth it. Please always read the directions.
3. Use a lip liner
In my opinion, I think lip liner is one of the most underrated products on the market. It’s truly essential to having a lasting lip color. It lays a base of color on the lips, and you can also use different color liners together to contour your lips as well. Think about it this way: it’s the perfect backup to your favorite long wearing lipstick color.
