The Bride on her special day:

“The wedding was themed 'romantic fall' and the reception was themed 'New Orleans/Mardi Gras.' Since I went to school at Xavier and Tulane, I just had to have the New Orleans touches. The big thing was how to merge the two without there appearing to be a conflict of themes.

“The way that we did this was by sticking with deep purples and red for the wedding ceremony and really playing up the intimate lighting, with candles in vases and having the lights dimmed. This way, the fall theme was not really overwhelming and still tastefully done.

“For the reception, we decided to go with a classy Mardi Gras feel and stuck with gold and purple to not have too many clashing colors, which still transitioned nicely from the wedding itself. One of the things I felt I had to have was the crystal trees, and we went with feathers instead of flowers, since I wanted to try to be eco-friendly and it just had more of an overall Mardi Gras feel. The great thing about the feathers in the center piece was, it was a great play off my wedding dress and added to the cohesiveness of the theme.

“Finally, while we did not have a second-line band, I definitely wanted a live band. The band played during cocktail hour and the first half of the reception! It was awesome, definitely gave that New Orleans feel since they are renowned for their live music. When it came time to party, the DJ was awesome and able to play second-line music, so we were able to do our second line seamlessly.”
