About the special day: For months, the couple was in preparation for their wedding. They knew they wanted to get it underway a lot sooner rather than wait a long time. “When you are with each other for six years, I guess you don’t see the point of waiting a year to get married. The very next day I was looking for a dress, while I allocated finding a wedding venue to him.” Huston describes that Nikky ran a tight ship: “She wasn’t playing around. You had to get your job done or else she would give that eye, and I didn’t want the eye.” But he understood her sense of urgency. “Being a Nigerian-American couple makes getting married particularly tricky, because we had to prepare for a traditional wedding and a western wedding. Our parents handled the details for the Nigerian traditional ceremony and we took care of the western wedding ourselves.” Huston was serious about his job, and he didn’t take looking for venues lightly. “As far as wedding venues, we took a look at a lot of places, and we liked them a lot. But when I saw Agave Road, I fell in love with it. I had to have it as the wedding venue, and Nikky agreed when I showed it to her.” The rustic venue had a beautiful outdoor and indoor setup. The landscape looked like a movie scene, and Nikky always had an affinity for water. Agave had areas with small waterfalls and fire pits spread throughout; it could feel like summer and winter all at once. The potters decorated the place with brilliant pieces. Nikky and Huston celebrated the union July 28, 2012 in their traditional wedding festivities, then officially tied the knot on August 3 in front of nearly 300 friends, family and event crashers. “We sent less than 125 invites. Somehow the number of guests doubled by nights end!” The couple started by having the ceremony outdoors as the sun set at 8 pm, and moved indoors for a tasteful reception. “We had a lot of fun dancing and talking with our guests. The greatest thing about Agave Road was that it gave you the feel of an extravagant wedding, while at the same time giving you a feel of intimacy.” Their guests were as impressed as they were: “I felt like I was at a royal wedding,” said a distant cousin of the groom. “It was an amazing place for an amazing and beautiful couple.”
