Inspired by the British mod fashion of the early 1960s and taking a simplistic approach comes the Spring/Summer 2016 Brett Johnson Collection. Johnson got his start in fashion by customizing Nike Air Force Ones while in his early 20s. With the idea to break into the fashion industry, he sourced fabrics from Spain, Portugal, Italy and Japan, which were later used to launch the Brett Johnson Collection in 2014. The Pre-Fall outerwear collection launched this July on NeimanMarcus.com and at specific Neiman Marcus retail locations.

The Spring/Summer 2016 luxury menswear collection features 18 pieces, including an ultra-lightweight nylon water-proof parka, calf leather bikers and racers, a collarless bomber and knitwear, in addition to double-breasted outwear, all made with globally sourced fabrics. As explained by Johnson, classic European coloring influences each of the pieces, with a particular emphasis on the linings.

In particular, the thyme lightweight nylon parka is 100% waterproof, made with chevron stitching, and has crème satin pipe lining. This piece was a staple in the collection amongst the knitwear, which consisted of perforated tees, crew neck sweaters and collared chevron shirts.

Another item that stood out was the black calf grain double-breasted biker. The interior on this piece is shaved and coated so the leather doesn’t bleed onto undergarments. The special detail of this piece also makes it highly likely that the piece can be a heavily-worn item in a men’s closet if he admires conventional outwear.

The functionality of the pieces was perhaps the highlight of the collection. Each piece can be seen as “classic contemporary,” according to Johnson. His personal aesthetics are seen in detail throughout the clothing, a visual fusion of hip-hop and Italian menswear.

In January 2016, BJC will be at New York Men’s Fashion Week and the collection will be styled by celebrity stylist June Ambrose.
