The sun is not the only thing we’ll miss about summer. We’ll also have to hand over our sexy tans, hydrated skin and effortless glow. Or so we think. With the right products and the help of a few celebrity makeup artists, you can look like a bronzed beauty during fall’s murky weather.

Your summer glow was really just the look of quenched skin, so you should focus on making your foundation—whether oil-free or not—look dewy. Combine two-thirds of your moisturizer with one-third of liquid foundation. Instead of using a brush, use your fingers to create what Sam Fine coined “second skin.” Follow up with a second application of foundation only on scars and imperfections.

Next, focus on highlighting your skin. Tia Dantzler, Jennifer Hudson’s makeup artist, says to use a “bronzer with a hint of shimmer” for a soft, natural look. “It really pops under lights, yet it’s not too dramatic.” She uses Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder, which gives a radiant glow in the dreariest of months.

Liquid highlighter is also godsend. It’s the slight sheen that celebrity faces like Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and Mary J. Blige boast. Editorial makeup master, BP Caramouche swears by Benefit High Beam Luminescent Complexion Enhancer. “Sparkling skin adds a touch of red carpet glam to your everyday routine. Highlight your face by applying very small amounts to your forehead, cheeks and jaw line.” A highlighting favorite for Meagan Good is NARS Highlighting Blush Powder. She uses it to create a slimming shadow down the center of her nose.

Malika James, makeup artist for VH1’s “Single Ladies,” likes to highlight brows as well, because they frame the face. “My favorite makeup trick in the whole wide world is to take a small angle MAC brush (#266) and use Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer (concealer) to trace around the brows. It creates a highlight right around the brows and gives you an instant brow lift. Always use a concealer that’s a shade lighter than your skin tone.”

Along with brows, your eyes require a certain amount of attention. Cloudy days detract light and subsequently highlight dark circles and lid discoloration. Sweep a wash of CoverGirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer over lids before applying eyeshadow. It perfectly covers varying hues and won’t interfere with your liners and highly pigmented shadows.

Ushering your summer glow into fall is also a matter of good skincare. With the onslaught of dry skin rearing its scaly head, make sure to exfoliate like a champion. It’s ever-important to use scrubs and softening, moisturizing masks like Lush Cosmetics BB Seaweed fresh face mask. —Kimberly Walker
