Contouring seems like a lot of work for the woman chained to her five-minute face, but the result is a fierce look inspired by an international icon. Janet Jackson has been serving up chiseled cheeks, a defined nose and a signature look for over three decades. Grab your kit and learn how to paint like the masters.

CONTOURED CHEEKS

Janet has a slight advantage with her naturally high cheekbones, but you can mirror her look by doing light contouring with powder or foundation. Your goal is to define your natural shape. Suck in your cheeks and sweep a shade in the crease that’s slightly darker than your skin tone. This shadow creates a higher, more feminine cheekbone. Follow with a subtle bronzer on the apples of your cheeks. Remember: Long-haired brushes give you a more diffused look.

HIGHLIGHTED NOSE

Highlighting is great because it simply enhances your natural features. Janet is known for her expertly sculpted nose, and the key is to use a shade one to two tones lighter. Using a foundation brush, paint a strip of concealer down the bridge of your nose in a straight line. Use a darker foundation on the sides of that line to blend and create dimension. Keep your application light and don’t get too messy. It’s always easier to add a little more than to have to go back and correct.

BET ON BROWN

Sculpting, contouring and highlighting require the use of many rich browns that look like second skin. Janet’s regal looks are mainly void of color, except for these bronze to chocolate hues. Think peach, mocha, mahogany, rust, walnut and raisin.

CoverGirl Queen’s Collection Natural Hue Compact Foundation has a wide range of browns that fit every complexion.
