This week’s Model of the Week is Major Model Management’s Ania Charlot, a statuesque Haitian beauty. Beside juggling her career as a model and making time for her friends and family, Ania takes part in a project called Ansanm Nou Se Ayiti (“Together We Are Haiti”), a movement to show unity among young Haitian women living around the world. Read more about Ania below.

EBONY: Major Model Management is such a big deal! How did you feel when you signed the contract?

Ania Charlot: It was a surreal moment. I still don’t believe it, but I didn’t waste any time. I signed it shortly after I was scouted.

EBONY: How long was it before you got your first modeling assignment? How did you feel going to set?

AC: The day after signing, I was scheduled for my first casting, and later that week I learned that I got the job. I was picked to do a photo shoot for V Group. It was an emotional moment, just for the fact that it was my first casting since signing with the agency… and I got booked! I was more excited than nervous going on set.

EBONY: How has modeling shaped you as an individual and your personal habits?

AC: Besides the fact that I am constantly trying to improve my skills as a model and learning about the industry, I’m trying to balance having a career and spending time with my friends and family. I’m also trying to get involved with personal projects.

EBONY: Speaking of projects, what are you working on now?

AC: A friend of mine asked me to take part in a project called Ansanm Nou Se Ayiti. I was actually thrilled when I was approached to be part of it. The project involves three Haitian women, including myself, who represent the different types of beauty Haiti has to offer. This project is also supposed to be the beginning of a movement to show unity among young Haitian woman in the States and in Haiti.

EBONY: What are your other interests and/or hobbies?

AC: I just started doing hot yoga, and I love to run and read.

EBONY: How is it being a Haitian model in the fashion industry?

AC: As a Haitian model and a model of color in general, I just feel the pressure to be perfect in every way that I can. The fact that I know that there are a lot of disadvantages makes me work harder. I work on improving my skills every chance I get, from my walk, poses, taking care of my body, skin and how I present myself when I go castings.

EBONY: What has been the most memorable working experience for you?

AC: Being able to experience Fashion Week as a signed model has been the most memorable working experience for me so far. I have had the chance to go to some great castings, and have done shows I would have never been able to do if I wasn’t signed.

EBONY: What models do you look up to?

AC: Iman will always be my top model icon. I love how she manages to be one of the top supermodels and a businesswoman at the same time.

EBONY: Iman is legendary, and such a style icon as well. How would you describe your personal style?

AC: Simple, but chic.

EBONY: Here’s another fun question: What are your beauty tips?

AC: Well my top three beauty/grooming essentials are foundation, body lotions and a facial cleanser. I like the Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick because it’s very easy to carry around, and I like the natural glow it gives my skin. I’m also using Pure Emu oil right now, it’s a great moisturizer for your skin. And I'm also using St. Ives green tea facial cleanser. I really love how all the items feel on my skin.
