This week, we caught up with  Mika Mawatachi Lau of Kawaii Nails in Tustin, CA for info on her Japanese inspired floral decal manicure.

The Trend: With Spring just around the corner (we hope), florals are preparing to take center stage and these 3D floral decals in this manicure will have you season ready.

EBONY: How did you create this design?

Mika Mawatachi Lau: It's fairly simple. First, begin by applying a base coat clear polish. Next, apply two coats of pastel color polish. We like Essie's Pink Diamond ($8). I then created handmade 3D flowers using acrylic powder but that's optional. If you need to purchase small decals, the best bet is to go to an arts and crafts store and find your favorite decals to add.

Editor's Note: Rather than making your own floral decals, check your local Michaels craft store for nail decals and simply apply them using nail glue. Add rhinestones to the accent nails and finish with a clear top coat. Try, Revlon Color Stay Top Coat ($7.99) for the perfect finishing gloss.

EBONY: What do you feel is your artistic significance when it comes to nail art?

MML: I specialize in Japanese style hand-painted designs and handmade 3D designs.
