This week, we caught up with nail artist J. Nicole about her abstract manicure.

The Trend: With so many creative nail art ideas, sometimes it’s hard to just settle for one. This week’s manicure is for those who don’t mind shaking things up a bit, and going the abstract route. If you throw on little bling here, add a few random brush strokes there, before you know it, you’ve created a nail art masterpiece. Show off your creativity and get inspired by the details below.

EBONY: What was the basic guideline to creating this design?

J. Nicole: I started with a turquoise blue, white and black polish as a base for the nails. For the crisp white backdrop, try Dermelect Cosmeceuticals ME Anti-Aging Color Treatments in Opulence ($14; Dermelect.com). I added a few open square stones to some of the nails. Next, I painted slashes on the white nails, and blinged up two nails with Swarovski crystals for added sparkle. For a popping shade of blue, try Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Nail Polish in Pacific Blue ($2.50; CVS.com).

EBONY: Do you have any advice for up-and-coming nail artists trying to make a name for themselves in the industry?

JN: It’s great to be inspired by other artists, but always make sure your designs still represent you when creating your inspired art.
