At Azzedine Alaia’s first show in six years,  the 47-year-old British supermodel stole the show.

As part of Haute Couture Fashion Week, Alaia called on Naomi Campbell to open and close the show. In a headpiece that increased her height by at least a foot, the queen of sass and fashion reminded us of her strut. Among the crowd of fashion editors, buyers and celebrities, the highly anticipated event took place at the Alaia Gallery in Paris.

In one outfit, the supermodel, a longtime Alaia muse, wore a white fur petticoat with black accents. Tights and three-quarter cut boots completed the “couture look.” The fashion flock looked on in awe as the runway reunion was a surprise and a treat. The Tunisian-born designer first met Campbell when she was a teenager doing her first Paris show, and, according to a new untitled 26-minute  documentary about Alaia by stylist Joe McKenna, Campbell’s purse and passport had been stolen. He took her under in, acted as a father figure, and since then, she has called him “Papa.”

Like a classic Alaia show, there was thumping club music and all the top trending models, including Karli Kloss. The veteran catwalker wore a classic black velvet sheath dress with accented silver embellishments. Many Alaia dresses are heavy and feature lots of metal, and this collection was no different.

The designer is known for clothing that blends sex, confidence, and modesty. By the end of the show, the crowd was on its feet and inspired. Alaia is back.
