Nike has postponed the release of Travis Scott’s collaborative sneaker due to the aftermath of the Astroworld Festival in Houston earlier this month, reports NPR.
In an official statement, Nike announced the postponement of the sneaker launch.
"Out of respect for everyone impacted by the tragic events at the Astroworld Festival, we are postponing the launch of the Air Max 1 x Cactus Jack," the company said in a statement shared via their SNKRS app and the Nike website.
Over the last few years, Scott's sneakers have been incredibly popular and are considered must-haves for sneaker collectors. His latest Nike collab, in the "Baroque Brown" and the "Saturn Gold" colorways, was set to be released on Dec. 16 but no new date has been revealed.
As EBONY previously reported, at least 10 people have died and hundreds more were injured at the Astroworld Festiva. As medical examiners are currently investigating the causes of death, the tragic event is now considered one of the deadliest concerts in U.S. history.
Nike's decision comes after 9-year-old Ezra Blount passed away from injuries he suffered at the festival. He was the latest and youngest person, so far, to pass away in connection to the concert.
A GoFundMe campaign was created to raise funds to help cover Ezra’s medical expenses.
Following the tragedy, Scott pledged to cover the funeral expenses of the victims. In the aftermath of the incident, a criminal investigation was launched into Scott, Live Nation, and the other organizers behind the festival.
The Blount family and several others have filed lawsuits against Scott and Live Nation.
