NAME: Shayveca “Shay” Kreuger

SIGNATURE STYLE: Afro-Twist-Puff-Coupe

PRICE TAG: $40 every five months

OCCUPATION/PASSION PROJECT: Radio DJ/Producer of the primetime show (aired in the Netherlands on FunX) called Morad & Shay.

My passion project is a video series entitled When Shay Says. I ask random people about their hair, and it’s interesting to see how many different associations people have with one word. It’s in Dutch. I recorded my first English language episode during the Afropunk Festival in Brooklyn.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR HAIRSTYLE?

I have a twist-out, and I add the Afro puff. I use a comb to detangle the twist-out a little bit. I’ve recently changed my hairstyle’s name, since I have had a funky shape-up going on for a few weeks now. It’s more like a Funky-Afro-Twist-Puff-Coupe.

WHAT PRODUCTS AND PROCESSES DO YOU USE TO STYLE YOUR LOOK?

I use Dax pomade to twist my hair. My mom used it on my hair when I was little, and I never stopped. To give it extra shine, I use Monoi Oil by ORS. The conditioner smells really good. It has a banana scent.

My routine after washing and conditioning my hair, or after only conditioning it, is this: I blow dry it, apply the Dax all over, twist it and take the twists out the next morning. I twist my hair four times a week.

HOW MUCH DO YOU SPEND ON AVERAGE TO MAINTAIN YOUR COUPE?

I spend $40 once every five months. I go to the hairdresser every week to get the shape up refreshed, which costs $10, and I am able to use the products I purchase to wash and style my hair. Those last forever. I can’t recall the last time I even bought Dax or my shampoo.
