ABC News has announced the premiere of Superstar: Aaliyah, an hour-long special that chronicles the life and career of the legendary singer and actress.

The program features never before seen interviews with those who were close to Aaliyah, such as her former boyfriend Damon Dash, the entertainment mogul; Barry Hankerson, her uncle and manager; and Jimmy Douglass, the recording engineer and producer who worked with the iconic singer on her studio albums. Additionally, Will.i.am, Justine Skye, Sevyn Streeter, Karl Kani, and Aleali May give exclusive interviews where they share the long-lasting impact of the "One in a Million" songstress' signature style and influence.

The primetime event will explore the rise of Aaliyah and her influence on music and fashion and how it remains an inspiration to others over 20 years since her passing. The special will also go into the details surrounding her marriage to R. Kelly, now a convicted sex offender.

“From the moment I stepped foot on stage, I was like, ‘This is what I want to do. I have to do this—I’m happy doing this,” Aaliyah says during the opening moments of the trailer.

The hour-long special will premiere on ABC on June 14, 2023 at 10 pm EST.
