The ladies of popular 1990s group SWV recently sat down with Buzzfeed Cocoa Butter to talk the progression of R&B, sharing their thoughts on some of today’s leading voices within the genre.

Group members Lelee and Taj were pretty generous with their critiques while Coko chose to shoot straight, saying she loves artists H.E.R. and Jhene Aiko, but wishes they could both make songs that are a little less “sleepy.”

When it comes to Beyoncé protégés Chloe X Halle, Coko and Lelee note how much they sound like their mentor, and Taj says she’s yet to connect with one of their songs but admits they’re great live vocalists and performers.

All three ladies loved Teyana Taylor’s “Gonna Love Me,” though Coko had some reservations about Queen Naija’s ability to sing live.

“I just like to her them sing live because nowadays, all these girls sound like a computer.”

“Sativa” singer Aiko got word of Coko’s critique of her music being “sleepy” and decided to approach the veteran songstress over the weekend during Pharrell’s Something In The Water festival. Coko posted a photo of the two and shared their conversation with fans on Instagram.

"Jhene’ Aiko is a sweetheart! She walked up to me and said all of my songs aren’t sleepy. We laughed & hugged it out!!❤️ She got what I was saying though. It’s all love, no hate. My son is a big fan of hers. 💕 #sitwfest"
