Texas Southern University (TSU) boasts a prestigious legacy. Now, they have added an extra notch of excellence to their rich heritage.

The Texas Southern University Tigers cheer team recently won at the National Cheerleaders Association’s college national championship. Taking place in Daytona Beach, Florida, the team took home a national title and became the first HBCU to do so.

Led by Shontrese Comeaux, the Texas Southern University Tigers have been racking up awards under her leadership. In 2022, they won a gold bid at the NCA College Camps. In a quote to NBC News, Comeaux reflected on the win and stated, "This win for me just symbolizes in one word: growth. Growing the program, having incoming cheerleaders that are willing to grow with the team and growing in the direction of the vision that we want to take the team."
