Let’s face it. The Oscars are not always the most relatable award show experience for members of our community. From fighting for visibility in the award nominations sector or simply not getting invited to participate in the festivities to off-kilter jokes, Black folks don’t really rock with the Oscars. Regardless of who chooses to acknowledge our talents and light, we are here proudly and unapologetically. However, the Academy Award's efforts to incorporate more diversity into their evening of cinematic excellence have paid off this year.
