Though it is a brilliant piece of work, one didn’t need to watch HBO’s Game Change to understand where Sarah Palin’s flaws lie. She does a fantastic job all her own showing those off whenever she opens her misinformed mouth. Last week during a routine appearance on FOX News’ Hannity, the failed vice presidential contender told host and fellow conservative Sean Hannity that President Obama’s intent is to return American to discrimination similar to that of the days “before the Civil War.”

She issued this asinine assumption in response to the non-issue that is a then Harvard University Law School Barack Obama – gasp – hugging former Harvard Law professor, Derrick Bell.

Palin explained: “Now, it has taken all these years for many Americans to understand that that gravity, that mistake, took place before the Civil War and why the Civil War had to really start changing America. What Barack Obama seems to want to do is go back to before those days when we were in different classes based on income, based on color of skin.”

Where as Derrick Bell used his privilege to stress the need of diversity, Palin uses hers by playing to the darker side of American populism. Since she spoke plainly I won’t bother gussying up my general sentiment either: Only a privileged white person would be allowed to state something that stupid without instant condemnation by anyone with a reading level above the seventh grade. Well, someone above a seventh grade reading level that doesn’t harbor the antiquated prejudices of someone much older anyway.

There is and always will be class divides in this and other societies. How restrictive they are in terms of social mobility and the “fairness” to which Palin pretends to care about is rooted in governmental policy. To that end, if Sarah Palin wants to talk about saving the country from the booming economic disparity that may ultimately leave future generations at immense peril, she should start at the source: Her fellow Republicans. I’ll even offer a tip where to start, Mrs. Palin: Your party’s Moses, Mr. Ronald Reagan.

The sheer nerve of that dominionist to go on TV to suggest someone else wants to return this country back to its more regressive days. How pathetically sophomoric in thinking do you have to be to think that a Black man would want to return this country to a period where he’d more than likely be in shackles, or if he’s “lucky,” a freeman living like a distant second citizen? It’s also revisionist history (at the very least) to pretend that the end of Civil War brought on full-fledged equality for the disenfranchised and flat out insulting to compare the life of a slave to that of a fairly taxed millionaire.

Then again, this is the same person who apparently thought the Queen of England had David Cameron’s job in the United Kingdom, so maybe it’s my own fault for continuing to hope that such a simpleton might at least try to start sounding reasonable. Sadly, she revels too much in her ignorance and operates under the belief that she might reclaim much of the attention a new but equally ridiculous GOP presidential field has caused her to lose by fanning the racial flames in this country. No thank you, Bullwinkle slayer.

Ever haughty, always inflammatory, and the quintessential know nothing know-it-all, the former Alaskan governor continues to be given the opportunity to put her foot in her mouth. She is, in essence, the song that doesn’t end. When will someone just break the damn radio already?
