Today, the official trailer for the highly-anticipated musical film remake of The Color Purple was revealed to the public, and let's just say that we can't contain our excitement.

In the brief trailer, we see some of the cast—Taraji P. Henson, Colman Domingo, Fantasia Barrino, H.E.R., Corey Hawkins, Danielle Brooks, Phylicia Mpasi and EBONY's May 2023 cover star Halle Bailey—in all of their glory. In the clip, Barrino, who played Celie on Broadway, can be heard powerfully belting "I'm Here," one of the musical play's most powerful songs.

Written by Alice Walker in 1982, her novel was adapted into a screenplay by the famed director Steven Spielberg. The film was a bearer of cinematic excellence, and turned into a Black cult classic. Later, Walker's oeuvre was adapted into a stage play. Spielberg returned to produce the Blitz Bazawule-directed film alongside Quincy Jones, Scott Sanders and Oprah Winfrey., who starred in the original film as Sofia.

The Color Purple follows the story of Celie, a young woman who was separated from her sister, Nettie, by her mean and cruel husband Mister. Throughout it all, Celie holds onto the love of their shared sisterhood, learns to discover her voice and to love the skin she is in.

Since the trailer's release, nothing but positive excitement have rolled in regarding the reimagining of the iconic film. From its imagery, actors, vocal stylings and costuming, this film is sure to be a delight to watch.

The Color Purple is set to be released on Christmas Day 2023. Check out the full trailer below, and do your best to hold back tears:
