Today, The New York Times (NYT) published an interactive pictorial featuring images from the Johnson Publishing Company (JPC) archives.

According to the newspaper, the collection of photographs--more than 4 million prints and negatives--will be offered at an auction that will be conducted privately at a downtown law firm tomorrow, July 17.

The NYT article features images of luminaries including Coretta Scott King, Redd Foxx, Whoopi Goldberg, Ray Charles, Arthur Ashe and several others.

JPC, the former EBONY and JET publisher, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection in April. In 2016, Black-owned Ebony Media Operations purchased the media assets--EBONY magazine, EBONY.com, digital magazine JET at jetmag.com and their related businesses--from JPC, and they continue to operate. These publications remain unaffected by JPC's bankruptcy and the auction of its photo archives this week.
