EBONY Magazine released details today about its inaugural EBONY Power 100 Gala Presented by Nationwide Insurance that will be held at New York City’s Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, on Friday, Nov. 2. The gala, which will host the nation’s most influential African Americans for an intimate celebration for those who shape African American culture and history, will feature a performance by Grammy Award-winning hip-hop/neo soul band The Roots.  

In addition, the Gala, will also feature special performances by a selection of the cast from Broadway’s hit musical “Fela,” The Black Monks of Mississippi, a collaboration of Soul musicians and singers, the Abyssinian Baptist Church Choir, and Brendon Elliot, a classical violinist.

The EBONY Power 100 spotlights African Americans who personify “power” in all its manifestations—strength, focus, commitment and determination—those who innovate, elevate and shape the world in new and different ways. EBONY Power 100‘s 21 categories include “The Anointed,” “The Environmentalists,” “The Powerbrokers,” “The Thought Leaders” and “The Young Gifted & Black.”

The 2012 Power 100 list will appear in the Dec./Jan. issue of EBONY on newsstands the week of Nov. 5.
