A look at the political week that was…
- Obamacare was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. Read our breakdown of the decision here. The landmark decision means a lot for women, people of color, young people, the 30 million or so Americans who are uninsured, and people with pre-existing conditions.
- In a vote of 255-67 – with 109 Democrats staging a walk-out in protest – the first Black attorney general Eric Holder was held in contempt by the Republican House of Representatives.
- Even prior their contempt vote for the attorney general in the House, it appeared that congressional Republicans had gone completely off the rails, holding up a transportation bill that would created jobs to get a symbolic anti-choice vote on “personhood.” Also, after some delay a deal has been made that would prevent interest rates on student loans from doubling.
- A Republican lawmaker in Pennsylvania finally admits what everyone already knew, the new voter ID laws will help Mitt Romney win the election.
- Mitt Romney tried his very best to get The Washington Post to retract the huge story about how he pioneered the outsourcing his jobs oversees while at Bain Capital but The Washington Post told him no.
- And everyone almost missed it but this week the Texas GOP called for the repeal of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 as part of their official platform.
