Tiffany Haddish’s ex-husband is suing her after she made claims that he abused and stalked her in her memoir The Last Black Unicorn, according to TMZ.
In a lawsuit obtained by TMZ, her ex, William Stewart, said that Haddish labeled him as a monster in her 2017 book and that he didn’t abuse Haddish and that he wasn’t responsible for the loss of their unborn child, but that the actress had an abortion.
Stewart was unnamed in Haddish’s book but says that it’s easy to identify him as the person she was referring to in her book since she was only ever married to him.
“For the defendants’ own profit, they painted my clients as abusers in a best-selling book. After a thorough review of the facts and evidence, we know that the assertions made by the defendants about my clients in The Last Black Unicorn are patently untrue,” his attorney Michael Sterling told the site.
Stewart is allegedly angry that Haddish wrote about his mother, Elnora Daughtery, in the book, where she claims that his mom abused Stewart and knew of his abuse toward her.
He is suing the Girls Trip star for libel, slander and defamation and is seeking damages over $1,000,000. The book’s publisher is also listed as a defendant, as well as Tucker Max, who co-wrote the book with Haddish.
“Powerful people and influential corporations can’t intentionally and recklessly destroy someone’s reputation with malicious lies for their own profit,” Sterling said. “After exhausting our ability to solve this matter privately, we have been left with no choice, but to seek legal recourse. We look forward to our day in court.”
