Spelman College announced that Tracee Ellis Ross will receive an honorary degree during its 136th Commencement ceremony. As an entrepreneur, an award-winning actress and a producer, Ellis Ross has had a successful career spanning more than three decades and continues to work to uplift society and the Black community. She will receive an honorary degree for the strides she has made in the field of entertainment in the name of visibility for Black women.

The prestigious academic institution also shared that Nikole Hannah-Jones—creator of the 1619 Project and Pulitzer Prize-winner—would deliver the keynote address during the festivities. Following her address to the graduates, she will receive a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa.
